bury me....so that i may blossom perfectly

Bury your existence in the earth of obscurity,
               For whatever sprouts forth,
               without having first been buried,
               flowers imperfectly
                                                        sheikh Ibn Ata'Illah
Please excuse the lack of post updates this week. I've been buried with all sorts of tasks. The last week of my holidays has taken a very unpredictable turn. However, with camera in hand I've been able to survive. Here's a few snapshots asking for your forgiveness.PLEASE FORGIVE (T_T)

bury me.... so that I may blossom perfectly

As you can see I had to get down and dirty to get some of this pics, especially the one of the bird. Its not my best picture but it has to do.In case you forgot birds tend to fly away if they sense the slightest movement. This bird really took my breath away.I had no idea it was watching me take the other pics.I would've loved to have captured that. Anyway, I took a pic of it just as it was about to take flight.Thought I have to share this with you guys.It appears to be pitch black but when it spreads its wings you able to see the orange on the tips of his wings.Subhaan Allah :)

CAREY MULLIGAN: the wall street misses

The first time I really took note of Carey Mulligan was when she starred in wall street. See I'm not really the celeb-remember'er, if you can even all it that. What attracted me to her was her pixie hairstyle along with her 50's sense of dress. Knee length dresses, skirts and tomboyish way of wearing slacks. Her style is easy for any hijaabster to incorporate in her every day dress.

declaration of faith

"To understand how this decisive formula ( the shahadah) is
one must observe the place it occupies in the ordinary muslim,
who will pronounce these words in every crisis and at every moment when the world threatens to overwhelm him, as he will when death approaches.
A pious man, seized by rage, will appeal suddenly to have stopped in his tracks as he remembers the shahadah and, as it were, withdraws, putting a great distance between himself and his turbulent emotions.
 A women crying out in childbirth will suddenly fall silent, remembering;
and a student, bowed anxiously over his desk in an examination hall, will raise his head and speak these words, and a barely audible sigh of relief passes through the whole assembly.
This is the ultimate answer to all the questions. "

21st century girl:MISHKA KADIR, part 2

You've seen her pictures, you've liked it. Now, know the events that led up to those pictures with a 9 question and answer interview with miss Kadir.

1. Since what age are you wearing hijaab?
-I have been wearing hijaab since the age of 11-when I became a women

2. What does hijaab mean to you?
-Hijaab is a protection. I see it as self-expression. I see hijaab as a blessing. What hijaab means to me is possibly different to what it means to others. Hijaab is my identity.

3. Why does it have this particular meaning?
-Muslim women are given this opportunity to cover their assets so that they are protected.Hijaab is our way of showing others that we respect ourselves, to know that flaunting our features creates undesired attention at times. Hijaab carries great meaning to me because  as a young Muslim women I can see the logic and sense in wearing hijaab. Islam does not propose things for nothing. There is a reason for everything the Quran states. If one reads surah An Nur verse 32, one will be able to see that Allah (SWT) tells us why we should cover ourselves- hijaab is only to benefit ourselves- those who wear it.

4. Has your hijaab style changed over the years?
-My style has definitely changed. When I started wearing hijaab I followed the common trend in Cape Town. As I grew older, I came to love my hijaab. I experimented with different styles that I searched for on the net. I wore my hijaab up, then down, then up again. At the moment, one can interpret my mood by noticing my hijaab style. My photos will give you an idea of how I've been wearing my hijaab for a few years till this day.

5. What would you define you current hijaab style as?
     - I can't categorize it in one term. I'd like to think it's a mixture of Arab and Bohemian because there is a structure but yet it is free and natural. Although I'd like to also think it's my unique style- maybe I could name it "The Michiko"( a high school name).

6. What are your hijaab do's and dont's?
   - Don't be scared
-Don't wear hijaab as a fashion statement, in other words, when wearing your hijaab be dressed like a   dignified muslim lady.
   - Do experiment with different syles.
   -Do mix colours.
   - Do try wearing more than one scarf.
   - Do mix textures
   - Do feel proud when appearing in public with your hijaab on.

7. Do you have any hijaab inspirations or gurus?
-I don't know of any Gurus nor have I found any inspirations. I simply find my own style and what I fell comfortable in.

8. You've recently traveled to Europe, tell us what you experienced there while being a hijaabster.
-Europe was different- the attitude towards muslims is very different to other countries I've been to.During my time touring Europe I felt comfortable in my hijaab because I felt I had something they didn't-protection and dignity. In London I came across one local that was wearing hijaab; the others were Arab tourists probably from different parts of the UAE. In London the attitude is welcoming. There is a scope for muslim citizens and tourists. France, on the other hand was not welcoming. In Paris, I had a problem with my train station pass. I went to the information desk window, I waited while two colleagues spoke, eventually the one left and I expected the other lady to help me at that point. She didn't. I waited almost five minutes after her colleague had left. I said, "Excuse me" numerous times but this women blatantly ignored me. When she was ready she helped me. She took my ticket, did something with it and when she was finished handed it back to me-without saying a word. Also, in Paris, the women in hijaab were tourists-hence the Governmental ban of muslim French women wearing their head scarf in public. Spain, is supposedly a muslim country after being conquered by the Arabs some time in  history. Although, the headscarf is not a common sight! This made me sad-I have a few friends in Spain that wear their hijaab and I was under the impression all the muslims wore their hijaab. I toured five major cities of Spain, namely Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Cordoba and Granada, and I only saw two muslim women with a head scarf. But in all I was at ease in Spain-the people are very welcoming; all the locals are friendly with everyone. Even during the negative experiences of my travels I always feel proud in my hijaab. When people look at me like they've never seen a muslim women covered up, I kindly smile at them.

9. Do you have any particular dreams as a hijaabster for the rest of the hijaabsters in and around Cape Town and South Africa?
-My biggest dream for the women of South Africa is for them to realise how beautiful they look in their hijaab regardless of their colour. The light that shines from your faces when you covered for the sake of Allah is one of the most beautiful sights. See the hijaab as an accessory to your already existing beauty. For those that think they wont get anywhere in life if they wear hijaab, I wish their eyes open and are attracted to the beauties of the religion of Allah(SWT)-it is only through Allah that you gain success.

21st century girl:MISHKA KADIR, part 1

introducing Mishka Kadir, probably one of the the "it"girls of the 21st century. Currently a second year occupational therapy student at the University of Cape Town as well as an  amirah of the university's MSA( muslim student association).

This is definitely one hijaaabster that's out to conquer the world. She's making her way up the social ladder by expressing her thoughts and views about Islam and other world wide pressing issues not only from within  the university's walls but throughout the globe. Miss Kadir has recently embarked on an adventure throughout Europe and if I'm not mistaken travelled to Egypt as well. From activist to global citizen this is a hijaabster that has to be taken seriously so look out Brangelina.

veggie garden

Attention: This blogger has officially switched to Eco- warrior mode!

In everything there is a sign, a clue to "He is the One"
                                                                 -Fahruddin Iraqi

We shall show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves, until it becomes clear to them that it (the Quran ) is the truth
                                                                    -Surah Fussilat 41:53

Alhamdulilaah my mimi veggie garden has finally started sprouting. I can now confidently say it at least looks like a garden of some sort. So its in disarray.  A bean patch here and there with a lot of sunflower plants starting to sprout in between them.I'm not the best of gardeners out there but one day I will be insha Allah.

Looking at the plants one realizes that man are very similar to plants.

GROWTH OF PLANTS

seeds
germination
small leaves sprout
more leaves,longer,thicker, stronger stem
flowers blossom
fruit appears
plant withers
plant dies leaves turn brown
disintegrated

GROWTH OF MAN

embryo
pregnancy
birth
early childhood development,adolescence,young adult,adult
children, family
old age
death
buried

The astonishing thing is different religions belief in different Gods. Some believe in 3 or more while others like Islam believes in One true God. Who is the creator and manager of all things. I'm  muslim, so to me one God makes sense. I believe that having more than one God or saying that God is divided into different parts that
manages the universe would mean God needs help. Thats why he needs a partner. This is kind of hard to grasp I mean its the Almighty. Believing that, is like saying God's defective because he needs another part of him to manage a certain thing that the part he is can't manage. If you look at the universe you see everything working in complete harmony with each other.
He's the creator therefore He knows His creation. If there was creators like in man's case there would be conflict because of different ideas and views. This is evident in a host of things that's man made. Also men need each other. Once again I'm stressing the point its the Almighty!!!!. He has to be free of need and help from other's, If you saying he needs help from a partner you comparing  God to man.

What I'm basically doing is negating that God has partners or can be divided into sub Gods. This is called al Wahdaniyah in Islamic belief(aqeeda). Using  what's known as the intellectual proof through observation of the universe. My observation-the perfect growth and timing of the growth of my veggie garden.Everything is in perfect balance. Pointing me to He is the One.

lets see what my Lord does...

"Lets say the name of Allah all the time
Lets see what my Lord does
                                             Let's travel the Way always
Let's see what my Lord does

Just when you least expect it,
                                             suddenly the veil is lifted
                                             The remedy arrives in time.
Let's see what my Lord does

                                            What did Yunus do?
                                            What did he do?
                                            He found  a straight path,
held the hand of a guide.

Let's see what my Lord does."

who's who in the WORLD OF HIJAAB

This post has my blood boiling and  is plastering a huge stupid smile all over my face :).
I can not contain my excitement any longer and honestly it's really silly.

I'm excited because I decided to do a weekly/forth nightly/monthly post titled who's who in the world of hijaab. I'm currently following more than 25 blogs belonging to lovely sister's all over the globe. Each blog in it's own way has an affect on me. These sisters strut there stuff in hijaab and seem to have no boundaries because of their hijaab. Who's who in the WORLD OF HIJAAB is similar to the world of fashion. The name who's who in the WORLD OF HIJAAB was inspired by who what wear. The difference is that while who what wear focuses on celebrity style, fashion, beauty tips where to shop and not to shop who'swho in the WORLD OF HIJAAB focuses on extra ordinary sisters (maybe brothers once its grown and I've matured, insha Allah) who does follow beauty tips, celebrity styles and fashion but also creates new styles incorporating hijaab into their styles and actually making it a key item.
They express their concerns for the muslim ummah by speaking about pressing issues, acknowledge Islam as the perfect way of life, try clearing up the misconceptions people have about Islam by speaking about Islam and how Islam betters our society.

who's who in the WORLD OF HIJAAB introduces SHEA RASOL (My Amethyst) a student/ entrepreneur from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

one things certain about lovely miss Shea she definitely knows her stuff. She puts together simple, classy, colourful timeless pieces that always make you come back for more.

boonaa mohammed: STRANGER TO THIS WORLD

Wow! I cannot believe I'm doing a post on brother boonaa mohammed, in fact I feel inspired simply through this post. Obviously that should tell you that this is an extra ordinary guy. Boona mohammed, a poet and spoken word artist was born in Toronto,Canada and is known by many people across the globe as the "VOICE OF THE GENERATION."

This is what brother Boonaa has to say about his poetry:
"I'm not a poet, I'm just a super-spiritual revolutionary soldier equipped with a quick wit and a big mouth who is down to fight for what's right that is loved and supported by like minded individuals and organisations committed to improving  the lives of the disenfranchised masses, that just happens to rhyme well.My poetry is strictly a form of therapy that I use to express my inner thoughts, beliefs and feelings. People have told me that they enjoy my poetry. I enjoy knowing that people enjoy my poetry. If anything I say or don't say offends you, then good. As long as I have been able to stimulate thought. Then my job here is done."
source :addis tunes

And now I leave you with the very first poem of brother Boonaa that I came across. This way you can judge for yourselves. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I (still) do.
